Kilroy Stars is a series of large-scale public art light sculptures commissioned by Kilroy Realty, installed across multiple urban skylines in the Western United States. Conceived as a constellation of luminous forms, these monumental sculptural installations function as both architectural landmarks and symbols of connection across distance.
Each star is a 20-foot diameter geometric structure—precise, faceted, and radiant. Constructed from aluminum with an internal steel core, the forms are animated by over 30,000 individually programmable LEDs that illuminate in patterns of color and motion. Visible from miles away, the sculptures shift and pulse like signals in the night, transforming structures within the cityscape into moments of orientation, curiosity, and wonder.
Originally conceived during the pandemic, Kilroy Stars emerged as a gesture toward connection—individual beacons across separate cities, linked through light, rhythm, and shared experience. Together, they form a distributed artwork at the scale of the built environment: part infrastructure, part constellation.
Each Kilroy Star is uniquely integrated into its architectural setting, requiring custom engineering solutions for installation, structural support, and environmental performance. Developed and fabricated by Engineered Artworks, the project exemplifies the ability to realize complex site-specific public art installations that merge sculpture, technology, and the urban landscape.
