Emergence is a large-scale public art sculpture and gateway installation created for the Edmonds Creative District. Commissioned by the Edmonds Arts Commission, this site-specific public artwork is located at Richard F. Anway Park, adjacent to the Washington State Ferry terminal lanes and marking the entrance to Edmonds’ newly designated Creative District.
Inspired by the form of a tree, the sculpture rises to a canopy at 14’ highand 22’wide, creating both a visual landmark and an immersive gathering space. At its base, a circular seating area invites visitors to rest and gather, while above, the canopy structure provides shade by day and transforms into an illuminated beacon at night. Created through a parametric design process, the sculpture responds to the site through scale and reach while maintaining an open, lightweight presence. The work’s laser-cut stainless steel elements and integrated lighting, balance geometrical precision with organic expression.
Emergence reflects a focus on public art and urban placemaking, creating an engaging space that celebrates community, environment, and creative identity.
Fabricated by Engineered Artworks, the project demonstrates Orlando’s approach to large-scale sculpture and site-responsive public art, combining design innovation with material craftsmanship.
